Bottom line

Compare both for your actual entities, card currencies, ERP workflow and travel policy. Check the complete plan quote and underwriting route before choosing; employee count or geography alone does not settle the decision.

Is it right for you?

  • Do you have employees outside the US who need corporate cards?
  • Do you need to carry a monthly card balance, or can you pay in full each month?
  • Which accounting software do you use?
  • Do you need integrated travel booking and management?
  • How many employees need cards?

The short answer

Ramp and Brex are both excellent corporate card platforms, and either one is a major upgrade over personal cards and expense reports. The decision comes down to two factors: international needs and feature depth vs. simplicity.

Both support card and expense workflows, including international requirements under eligible configurations. Compare supported entities and currencies, the quoted ERP plan, travel controls and a representative accounting export before deciding; neither geography nor headcount establishes a universal winner.

Where Ramp leads

Ramp offers spend analysis and subscription controls. Use actual duplicate charges, unused subscriptions and renewal terms in a demonstration; this comparison has no evidence for a universal 3–5% first-year saving or an automation-quality ranking over Brex.

Receipt matching and GL coding can reduce manual steps when the configuration handles your invoices and receipts correctly. Test missing documents, ambiguous categories and the review queue before treating that work as automated.

Ramp Standard connects QuickBooks and Xero; NetSuite and Sage Intacct are listed under Plus, whose quote includes a platform fee. Brex documents NetSuite and Sage Intacct bill workflows in its Essentials setup. Confirm the required card, bill and entity features and request the applicable connector scope in writing [official pricing and Brex Essentials implementation documentation, checked October 12, 2026].

Where Brex leads

Brex supports global cards, but it is not the only option here for local issuance. Ramp lists local-currency cards for eligible entities in more than 30 countries under Enterprise. Compare actual entity onboarding, card currencies and settlement requirements in each quote [Ramp pricing and international documentation, checked October 12, 2026].

Brex offers integrated travel booking and policy controls. Compare the actual booking routes, changes, refunds and policy approvals with Ramp Travel; frequent travel alone does not establish a guaranteed saving in administrative time.

Brex rewards vary by account program and purchase eligibility. Calculate rewards using the categories and redemption options available to the actual account, using the written account terms for software-vendor purchases.

Important 2026 update: Capital One acquired Brex in April 2026. If you are evaluating Brex, factor in the uncertainty around Brex's independent product roadmap going forward.

Card limits, credit underwriting, and eligibility

Ramp US onboarding requires an eligible US-registered business, a US business bank account and at least $25,000 cash; entity, physical-address and operating requirements also apply. The address cannot simply be a registered-agent address or mailbox. Cash and financial information affect underwriting, but the minimum is not an approval promise or a published universal 50–75% limit ratio [Ramp US qualifications, checked October 12, 2026].

Brex has different daily and monthly payment eligibility routes for commercial, startup and mid-market applicants. Its current requirements include revenue or funding conditions for those routes, and unfunded startups can apply for daily payments. A $50,000 balance associated with a funded-startup route is not a universal minimum for every applicant; a funding announcement does not guarantee a particular limit [Brex requirements, checked October 12, 2026].

These are charge-card arrangements rather than revolving credit; the selected daily or monthly payment terms determine when the balance is due. Ask each provider how to request a limit review, which financial information is required and how pending payments affect available spend. Do not assume a 1–2-day increase or an automatic funding-triggered review.

Accounting integrations depth comparison

Both platforms list QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite and Sage Intacct. A connector list does not prove equal workflow coverage: test the exact GL fields, subsidiary mapping, bill matching and reconciliation required in the proposed plan.

For NetSuite, demonstrate departments, classes, subsidiaries and sync failure handling with representative transactions. Validate duplicate prevention, mappings and retry behavior after setup; reviews about either product do not establish universally reliable or maintenance-free synchronization.

Ramp places NetSuite and Sage Intacct under Plus, including the additional platform charge. Brex describes those ERP bill integrations in its Essentials implementation guide. Obtain the relevant plan and connector scope in writing, then reconcile a sample export; neither a 20-person team nor fewer than 50 employees guarantees a free, problem-free implementation.

Real user migration stories: who switched and why

Accounting sync errors and changes in ownership are reasons an individual team might evaluate a move. The material cited here does not establish their frequency across migrations or prove that either provider is systematically more reliable; validate the current connector with actual transactions.

Capital One completed the Brex acquisition on April 7, 2026. Ask about current contractual support, pricing and roadmap commitments when evaluating a migration. Ownership alone does not demonstrate that terms have changed or explain an individual account issue.

International card requirements can motivate a platform review. Both providers now document eligible global configurations, so check entity, currency and plan coverage before treating Ramp as a US-only blocker. Travel booking and redemption requirements also need an account-specific comparison.

Support quality comparison

Brex lists round-the-clock general chat, email and phone support, plus travel support contacts. Confirm the live support routes available in the actual Ramp account and the response commitments in each contract. This comparison has no measured basis for the old 4–8-hour or 24-hour response assertions [Brex contact and support, checked October 12, 2026].

For a compromised card, use the provider instructions to secure the account and report the transaction. Ask how provisional credits, evidence requests and escalation work. There is no basis here for presenting 5–10 business days as a universal Visa resolution window or claiming that neither provider offers a live contact.

Dedicated account management and VIP support depend on the contract. Brex documents Enterprise VIP support during business hours; its general support channels have a different schedule. Ask each vendor which escalation and account-management commitments apply to the quoted plan because the service commitments differ by contract.

The 2026 buyer decision guide

Most buying decisions come down to two variables: where your employees are located and what your accounting stack looks like. Start there before evaluating features.

Consider Brex when its supported entities, local currencies, travel workflow and payment route meet your needs at the quoted cost. Compare Ramp Enterprise for the same international requirements. Neither equity funding nor a pre-revenue status guarantees Brex approval or a larger limit.

Consider Ramp when a representative receipt and ERP workflow works in the quoted plan, including any Plus platform fee and required add-ons. Reconcile sample transactions and exceptions before treating it as a lower-risk implementation; US operations and review scores do not establish that result.

For a 30-person US SaaS company on NetSuite, price Ramp Plus and the relevant Brex setup, then compare a sample close. For a 15-person team with staff abroad, verify eligible entities and local cards with both providers. For a 60-person travel-heavy business, test booking, policy changes and the actual reward terms. These are evaluation scenarios, not size-based product guarantees.

Small business guide: which to pick under 100 employees

For a team under 20 employees, begin with required card controls, accounting sync and payment routes. Ramp Standard includes bill pay; Plus and Procurement cover separately scoped requirements, so AP needs do not automatically require Plus or make its quote only $15 per employee.

For a team under 100 employees with staff abroad, check supported entities and local issuance at both providers. Ramp Enterprise global cards can be relevant; one foreign employee does not automatically rule it out.

The acquisition may matter to a buyer assessing contractual continuity. Revenue below $5 million does not itself establish whether underwriting terms will change; rely on current requirements and written commitments.

Compare eligible monthly purchases, actual reward rates and redemption terms against the complete software and payment fees. A fixed $10,000 spending threshold does not determine whether rewards matter to a particular business.

What finance leaders say about switching (2026)

Reviews can identify questions to test, including receipt capture, bill pay and ERP reconciliation. They do not by themselves establish that Ramp has superior automation or that Brex is feature-light; compare the current required workflows on representative data.

Brex global cards, travel and payment eligibility can fit some teams. Check the actual requirements and obtain an underwriting decision before relying on a proposed credit limit.

Some historical reviews discuss Ramp platform fees, including quoted annual amounts for particular feature sets. Those anecdotes are not universal prices: obtain the full current quote and compare the required modules at both providers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ramp or Brex rated higher by real users? Both sit at 4.8/5 on G2, with Ramp at roughly 2,400+ reviews and Brex at roughly 1,500+ [G2, 2026]. On Trustpilot the gap is much wider: Ramp scores around 3.5/5 (down from 3.7) while Brex is rated "Bad" at around 1.6-1.7/5, with sudden account closures the most common Brex complaint [Trustpilot, 2026].

Does Capital One's purchase of Brex change how it operates day to day? The transaction closed on 2026-04-07, placing Brex under Capital One. Brex has continued operating its card and expense platform under its own brand since close, and Capital One has said pricing and support are unchanged for now, but the long-term product roadmap is not yet public [Capital One newsroom, 2026].

Can a pre-revenue startup get approved for either card? Approval depends on the applicable route. Ramp evaluates US business eligibility together with its finances, including its published cash requirement. Brex distinguishes startup and commercial routes, with unfunded startups able to apply for daily settlement. Neither a funding event nor a balance alone promises acceptance [official requirements accessed 2026-10-12].

What do users complain about most on Ramp? The most frequent complaints are slow customer support with heavy reliance on chat bots, and new platform fees in the $5,000-$10,000 range appearing at renewal for some existing customers [G2 review roundup, 2026]. International limitations also come up, including issues with non-English receipt parsing in the AI expense matching [G2, 2026].

What do users complain about most on Brex? Historical review summaries include account-closure complaints; that material does not quantify how often closure occurs or identify the reason for every case. The old high-wire-fee claim is not a current fee schedule: Brex says it charges no per-wire fee, while exchange rates and intermediary or recipient-bank charges can still affect the amount received [Brex cost of services, accessed 2026-10-12].

How do the free and paid tiers compare? Compare the complete written quote. Ramp has a $0 Standard subscription and a $15-per-user Plus subscription with a separate platform charge; ERP needs and Procurement can change scope and cost. Brex offers Essentials and $12-per-user Premium, with integrations and advanced workflow requirements to verify. Payment-method charges are distinct from software subscription fees [provider subscription pages, 2026-10-12].

Who are Brex's main competitors? Ramp is Brex's closest competitor for US-based corporate cards and spend management, chasing the same venture-backed startup buyer. Beyond Ramp, Brex is commonly compared to BILL Spend & Expense (formerly Divvy), Airwallex (which leans on multi-currency accounts across 60+ markets), Navan, SAP Concur, and Mercury for startups that want a software-first banking layer alongside cards [Ramp, Airwallex, and Corpay competitor roundups, checked 2026-09-17]. Following the April 2026 change in ownership, some of that competitive set will matter more over the next year or two if Brex's product roadmap shifts under new ownership.

Who is Ramp's biggest competitor? Brex competes with Ramp across company cards, employee spend and AP requirements. Airwallex, BILL, Expensify, SAP Concur and Navan can also fit different card, AP or expense requirements [G2 and vendor alternative pages, checked 2026-09-17]. When employees are abroad, first confirm that each legal entity can open an account, which cards can be issued locally and which integrations the written proposal includes.
